Classic switchback hike to a historic alpine tea house above Lake Louise.
What to Expect
The Lake Agnes Tea House trail is the most popular hike from Lake Louise, climbing 400 metres through spruce forest and past Mirror Lake to a charming alpine tea house on the shore of Lake Agnes. The tea house, built in 1901, serves tea, lemonade and baked goods hauled up the trail by staff.
The round trip is about 7 km and rewards hikers with alpine scenery and a chance to rest with a cup of tea at 2,135 metres. Stronger hikers can continue up the Big Beehive for a bird's-eye view back down to Lake Louise.
Best Time to Visit
JuneβOctober once the trail is snow-free; July and August for the tea house's full operating season.
Practical Tips
The trailhead is at the far end of the Lake Louise shoreline. The tea house is cash-only and closes at dusk β start by mid-morning. Bring water and layers; the upper trail is exposed.
Where to Stay
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise sits on the lakeshore; Lake Louise village a few minutes down the road has mid-range and budget lodges and a hostel.
