Park in Victoria

55 hectares of themed gardens in a reclaimed quarry, lit at night in summer.

What to Expect

The Butchart Gardens began in 1904 as a project to beautify a spent limestone quarry on the family estate. More than a century later it has grown into 55 hectares of themed gardens β€” Sunken Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden and Italian Garden β€” and is a National Historic Site.

Summer brings outdoor concerts and Saturday fireworks over the gardens, while winter transforms the grounds into a glittering display of Christmas lights.

Best Time to Visit

June–August for peak blooms and fireworks; December for the holiday light display.

Practical Tips
