Lake Louise Gondola & Wildlife Viewing
Open-air gondola ride up the ski hill for grizzly sightings and mountain views.
What to Expect
The Lake Louise Gondola runs in summer from the ski resort base to the summit of Whitehorn Mountain, offering panoramic views over Lake Louise and the Bow Valley. The open-air chairs and enclosed gondola cabins ride through wildflower meadows that are prime grizzly bear habitat.
It's one of the most reliable places in the Rockies to safely spot bears, with wildlife interpreters on the gondola and viewing decks at the summit. A network of interpretive trails loops from the top terminal.
Best Time to Visit
Late Mayβearly October; July and August bring wildflowers and the best bear sightings.
Practical Tips
The gondola base is on Whitehorn Road, a 5-minute drive from Lake Louise village. Buy tickets online; morning rides are calmer and wildlife is more active early.
Where to Stay
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise sits on the lakeshore; Lake Louise village a few minutes down the road has mid-range and budget lodges and a hostel.
