1846 Martello tower museum of 19th-century military life on the lakefront.
What to Expect
Murney Tower is one of four Martello towers built in the 1840s to defend Kingston harbour against the threat of American invasion during the Oregon Crisis. The National Historic Site is now a small museum of Victorian military life.
Three floors of restored rooms display uniforms, weapons and domestic items from the garrison. The rooftop gun platform gives a fine view over the harbour and downtown waterfront.
Best Time to Visit
MayβOctober; the tower is closed over winter.
Practical Tips
Located at the foot of Murney Street on the lakefront, a short walk from City Hall. Allow an hour; combine with the nearby Frederick Martello tower and the waterfront walk.
Where to Stay
