Boat cruise on the Rockies' largest glacial lake to iconic Spirit Island.
What to Expect
Maligne Lake is the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rockies, a 22 km ribbon of glacial water hemmed in by peaks. The classic way to see it is a 90-minute cruise to Spirit Island, one of the most photographed spots in the Rockies, set against the ramparts of the Queen Elizabeth Ranges.
For a quieter experience, rent a canoe at the boathouse and paddle the shoreline yourself, or hike the Opal Hills loop above the lake for sweeping views down to the water.
Best Time to Visit
June–September when the cruise and boat rentals operate; mornings are calmest.
Practical Tips
